Michael Jordan and Lebron James will be debated over who is the better basketball player until the end of time. One side will always argue the other. There needs to be some middle as well as neutral ground on this heated topic.
First off, it is hard to rank these players on who is better. Each of them played in different eras. People argue that the 90’s were a lot more physical in the NBA. They are as well as different types of players. Lebron claims that he is a pass first player while Jordan looked to put the ball in the hole.
Personally I believe that Lebron is the better all around player. He can pass, rebound and score very efficiently. I think if Lebron could develop an above average jump shot then there would be no need for this debate.
But just because he is the better all around player does not necessarily mean that James is the best player. Jordan was a scoring machine and led the league in that category ten times. He was known to tell his defender the move he was about to make and still score with the defender having that knowledge. Maybe he wasn’t as good as a passer or rebounder as Lebron but he still ended up averaging 6.2 assists and 5.3 rebounds in his career.
Jordan’s a winner though. Never losing an NBA finals going a perfect 6 for 6. Lebron on the other hand has lost five finals, but he has also already made it to eight of them, winning three. He consistently makes it to the grand stage.
The Bulls were the best team in the league when Jordan was there but that isn’t the case for the Cavs. They have to go against the super team Warriors which makes it more difficult. He also led the 2007 Cavaliers to the NBA finals practically alone while Jordan had players like Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen. Although Lebron did lose in the Finals twice having Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh alongside him.
It might not be fair to judge the players in this regard, but Jordan had the hall of fame coach Phil Jackson for all six of his championships. Lebron beat the 73 win Warriors with Tyronn Lue leading the team, although we all know Lebron is the real coach of the Cavaliers. In Jordan’s fairness, James did play four years under Erik Spoelstra who is a genius of his own.
Since Lebron just turned 33 years old the other day we can look at the numbers at the season of each player at the age of 33. Lebron has 4 more seasons under his belt as well as 300 more games played. Lebron has five more final appearances, one more MVP, four more first team all NBAs and the same amount of finals wins.
Michael Jordan and Lebron James are two unique and rare talented players who are the best at what they do. I will have to give the edge to Lebron in who is better because of his all around play, constant finals appearances and coaching.
I know this article will not end this debate but it is a brief analysis of these two players and their respective games. Michael Jordan is an amazing once in a lifetime player but Lebron is the GOAT.
